Did The Original Doom Influence a Generation of Killers?

Did the birth of the violent FPS game make us immune to violence?

The casual rash of school shootings that we’ve seen recently could potentially be part of something deeper then gun availability alone. You see, our generation since the 16-bit era has grown around casual violence.

By casual violence, I mean 3D worlds that put you behind the trigger of a gun. Whether it be Quake, Unreal, Doom or any number of the modern FPS games that are available and popular.

Could it be that we are being programmed to be numb to violence? Maybe that is why school shooters can do these heinous acts with such impunity.

I’m not saying that video gaming is at fault, I’m just saying maybe it has made certain actions in life have a numbing effect.
