The Long Standing Sex Appeal of Metroid

There’s more to the franchise than just the gameplay.

Geeks rejoice when they hear the brand name “Metroid” being mentioned. Well, just about any Nintendo fanboy rejoices when they hear that brand. But there is more of a reason for that than just the gameplay.

Samus Aran, the protagonist of the Metroid series since the original game in 1986, has always been perceived as a sexy woman. Even in her exalted form Samus was arousing young gamers all over.

She was also the first mainstream female protagonist to headline a video game series, one that now dates almost forty years old. With the new release of Metroid Dread, I wanted to look back at what fuels this game.

To understand what I am saying, you have to look back through the games history.

When Samus isn’t wearing the Varia Suit, she is very sexual looking. In the same way that the Tomb Raider franchise positioned Laura Croft.
